Home Care – Home Companion

What Does a Home Companion Do?

Companion care services provide assistance to older adults, the home-bound, mobility challenged, and people with other disabilities, allowing them to retain their independence and continue living in their own homes, on their own terms, comfortably and with dignity. Companion caregivers provide a wide range of non-medical services to ensure you or your loved one continues with the quality of life they are accustomed to. Families, seniors, and other individuals are unique and have different needs, and companion services strive to match your loved one with the perfect care companion for their situation.

Home companion care services can help with things like grocery and other shopping, personal care, light housekeeping and laundry, medication reminders, meal planning, meal preparation, transportation to doctor appointments and other activities, scheduling appointments, socialization, and more. Our goal is to provide companionship and make daily activities pleasant and frustration-free for clients and their family members.

What is Elderly Companion Care?

As our loved ones age, certain aspects of daily living can become more difficult. Your family member might need assistance with light housekeeping, running errands, preparing meals, or other activities that they used to be able to handle on their own. It’s natural to want to maintain and independent lifestyle for as long as possible, and minor household tasks and other obligations should never stand in the way of a person enjoying life as they see fit. Companion care services allow older adults to maintain the quality of life they’re used to, in their own homes. A home care companion can provide the resources loved ones need to stay out of a nursing home. For many, the ability to live out their final years in an environment they know, surrounded by familiar things, family, and even beloved pets is a priceless gift.

Companionship is just as important as aid with daily chores, shopping, or transportation, and when you and your loved one cannot be there for each other, a caregiver can provide not only assistance, but friendship. It can become difficult for older adults to engage in the activities they used to, and that can mean becoming cut off from friends and acquaintances. This can result in issues like anxiety and depression, and cognitive decline can worsen in the absence of meaningful contact and conversation. Loneliness and social isolation can be real problems for seniors, and companions never want seniors to feel all alone in the world. Caregivers provide help with daily activities and help clients with day-to-day needs, but companionship is just as crucial to your loved one and their happiness. When we provide companion care to elderly adults, caregivers always make time to have a conversation, go for a walk, share a story, or watch television with clients. Care services ensure essential needs are met, but they also foster a caring and cherished relationship between companions and your loved one.

Companion care services enrich the lives of elderly adults in so many ways, and since every person and situation is unique, we will personalize a care plan for your loved one that ensures services will meet all of their needs–physical, social, and emotional.

Home care companions typically make regular visits, at least weekly, but based on each person’s needs, schedule, and care plan, caregivers can visit more frequently – if an elderly person needs assistance getting to an appointment, for examples. Companion care aims to help older people live their best lives, and caregivers understand that means different things to different clients. Call us today to discuss your individual needs and how companion services can fit into your lifestyle.

Do You or Your Loved One Need Home Care Services?

Older adults or people with special needs who are living alone in their own homes may eventually need assistance with daily chores, personal care, errands, and so on. Companion care can be the perfect solution for those who are generally healthy but need a little extra help – either because of mobility issues or cognitive decline. Home care services are especially essentially when others in the family do not have the time or resources to commit to the elderly or challenged person’s care – such as those who work full time or have small children. Senior care or care for the disabled can also be time-consuming and demanding, and a home care service can step in just to give the primary caregiver a break.

If you or someone in your family is older, living alone, needs assistance with personal care or other daily tasks, call us to discuss the ways in which a caregiver can enrich their life and allow them to hang on to their independence.

Our caregivers are available to serve Long Island the the five boroughs of New York City.
